After Israel returned from their Babylonian captivity their religion changed. No longer did they follow the way of God as He laid out in the Scriptures. Their religion became one of good works, trying to please God so He would love them, instead of a religion of thankfulness and praise because God loved them even though they were not worthy. The Feast of Yom Kippur can remind us God is a God of forgiveness and love for those who believe and call on His name. He has earned our salvation for us. For that we worship Him and Him alone.
